Free Classes: Bankruptcy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Free Credit Counseling/Bankruptcy Classes to Be Offered to the Public
Clark County Legal Services and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Southern Nevada, two community nonprofit organizations, announced today that they will offer a weekly special class aimed at the many Las Vegans who may be experiencing financial difficulties due to the recent lay-offs and cutbacks in the community. The class will offer financial counseling and information about repayment agreements and forebearances. The class will also offer advice and information on bankruptcy B, how to avoid having to file for bankruptcy, and how to file for bankruptcy if that option is needed. The class will be divided into two segments: financial counseling and bankruptcy, allowing individuals to attend one or both of the classes.
"We believe that it is a critical time in our community and are pleased to join forces to offer resources and information to those in need," said Barbara Buckley, executive Director of Clark County Legal Services. Clark County Legal Services, in collaboration with Nevada Legal Services and the William S. Boyd School of Law, offers free community legal education classes to the public at the present time, in the areas of family law, custody/paternity, small claims, and housing. The classes provide general legal information in these areas of law. They are taught by students from our law school while being supervised by a licensed attorney. "We are pleased that the William S. Boyd School of Law and fifteen law students have volunteered to help us with this new endeavor."
"It is imperative consumers are aware of all potential options prior to making any financial decisions. All benefits and/or possible repercussions of a decision should be considered," said Michele Johnson, CEO of Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS). CCCS provides education, financial counseling and debt repayment programs to all members of our community. As a HUD certified comprehensive housing counseling agency, all housing issues are addressed. "Partnering with Clark County Legal Services will allow us to reach those who find themselves in need of information."
The first credit counseling/bankruptcy seminar will be Friday, October 12, 2001, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will be held at Clark County Legal Services, 800 S. 8th Street, Las Vegas. To register or obtain a schedule of the classes, please call 386-1070, x. 155, or visit our website at www.clarkcountylegal.com.
