Resources: Self Help Center

The Family Law and Youth Services Division of Clark County District Court handles all family law related matters.  This includes all divorces, child custody and support, domestic violence and all issues regarding juveniles.

Regarding "Family Law" issues, invloving divorce and/or child custody/support, almost 44% of litigants represent themselves in court because they are unable to afford an attorney.  The District Court and Nevada Legal Services and Clark County Legal Services have established the Family Law Self-Help Center which provides information and legal forms to self-represented individuals in the Family Courts.   There is a nominal charge for the forms.

The information provided at the Family Law Self-Help Center assists unrepresented individuals with understanding the court procedures, where their case may be in the process, how to present their case and how to represent themselves in court.  These important functions assist the Judges, avoid unnecessary delays, continuances and speed the case along.

The staff of the Family Law Self-Help Center are not Attorneys and are not able to give legal advice, representation or assist with the completion of legal forms.  They provide a wide variety of  forms and will even provide a typewriter for you to use to complete the forms.

Several Agencies were involved in developing the concept of the Family Law Self-Help Center and developing it into an actual assistance center.  Those agencies are: Clark County District Court, Clark County Legal Services, Nevada Legal Services, State Bar of Nevada, Clark County Pro Bono Project, Clark County Bar Association, UNLV/Boyd School of Law.  Thanks to all of these agencies for their creativity and support of such a necessary tool for unrepresented individuals.
