Services: Volunteer, Special Education Surrogates
Special Education Surrogate Parent Initiative for
Las Vegas, Nevada
What:
Clark County Legal Services is looking for volunteers willing to advocate at local schools for foster children with academic, social, emotional or behavioral problems. Most of the children live in group homes where they are raised by staff rather than foster parents.
Why:
Every child needs a voice. Foster children’s voices are not always heard. Here in Clark County Nevada, you can be that voice.
How:
After a series of training classes, you will be matched with a child and your name will be presented to the court where you will receive a court order to act in behalf of the child as an educational surrogate parent for all special education issues. Although you will meet the child, you will not spend time alone with the child. Approximately, 10 hours a year will be the amount of time needed to advocate for the child. No experience is necessary. Clark County Legal Services will provide training and on going assistance.
When:
Introduction meetings will be held throughout the year.
Please call (702) 386-1070 extension 124 for a schedule of times and locations.
